Equipping Rutgers student-athletes to thrive in faith, sport, and life.

Athletes in Action creates fun and caring environments where Rutgers athletes can discover their true identity, build authentic relationships with fellow athletes, and experience the freedom to thrive on and off the field.

Discover Your Identity

Athletes often struggle to find their true identity. True identity is found in what God says about us, so we provide caring spaces where you can explore the Christian faith and discover who God created you to be. Simply put, we love God.

Experience Belonging

Athletes often feel isolated. Life is best lived in relationship with others, so we create fun and caring spaces for you to connect with fellow Rutgers athletes. Simply put, we love athletes and help them love one another.

Live in Freedom

Athletes often feel pressure to perform, forcing them to focus on themselves. God created you to freely love and serve others, so we equip you with the tools and resources to live and serve with freedom. Simply put, we love all of Rutgers.

Feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to perform?

The demands of being a Rutgers student-athlete leave many athletes feeling overwhelmed and disconnected. Under the daily pressure to perform in the classroom and on the field, Rutgers student-athletes often struggle:

Sport becomes your identity

Training becomes an obligation

Others’ opinions affect you

Relationships become transactional

Mental health suffers

Spiritual life is sidelined

Every Rutgers athlete deserves a fun and caring environment where you can explore faith with other athletes and learn to thrive under pressure.

At Athletes in Action at Rutgers, we see you, and we got you.

Finding success as a Rutgers student-athlete is no joke. We understand the pressures of balancing an overburdened schedule, academic demands, and the intensity of competition.

For over 20 years, Athletes in Action has helped Rutgers student-athletes grow in their faith and find security, belonging, and freedom. As an official campus chaplaincy led by former athletes, we can help you navigate the unique challenges of being a Scarlet Knight.

We offer fun and caring environments where you can explore faith and grow spiritually with other Rutgers student-athletes.

TimeOut

TimeOut is a large group gathering of Rutgers student-athletes that meets weekly to explore the intersection of faith, sport, and life. We meet for an hour in a relaxed atmosphere with food, games, and Bible teaching and discussions.

Tuesdays, 9:00 pm, Rodkin Multipurpose Room

Discipleship Groups

A disciple is a learner or follower. Discipleship Groups are smaller groups of student-athletes who meet weekly and make a commitment to learning together what it means to follow Jesus, how to study the Bible and become all God made us to be.

One-on-One

Struggling with something and need to talk to someone? We can connect in a one-on-one space and help you talk through what you’re walking through.

  • Terrance - Football

“I used to not have anyone to talk to about my struggles and I struggled with my faith. As God kept putting good people in my life, I’ve grown.”

  • Kennedy - Basketball

“Finding this community was really huge for me. Many of us have talked about spending time reading our Bibles together and just encouraging each other.”

  • Jack - Baseball

“God really met me and gave me hope in the midst of injury. Before this, my sport not going well would’ve made everything else fall apart.”

  • Kelly - Track

“I grew up an atheist and never went to church. I was going through some tough stuff my first week here. [This community] was the first time I saw Jesus through people.”

You can live and compete with a secure identity, a true sense of belonging, and the freedom to become all that God created you to be.

Together we can move beyond feelings of insecurity, isolation, and the pressure to perform. You can experience a true sense of identity and belonging that empowers us to thrive—in life and sport—no matter the pressure.
